Welcome to the Bedales Digital Archives
Welcome to the Bedales Digital Archives.
This site is home to part of the archive from Bedales School. It currently contains the record of two of the schools primary publications, The Bedales Record and the Chronicle.
The Bedales Record was the official magazine published by Bedales School, Hampshire from 1894 until 1935. It the first few years it appeared several times each year but eventually settled down to become an annual publication produced at the end of each academic year. Publication of the Bedales Record ceased when the school’s founder John Badley retired in 1935.
We are extremely grateful to the Bedales Association Steering Group who have generously funded the digitisation of the entire run of the Bedales Record from 1894-1935.
These digital archives also hold the earliest editions of the Bedales Chronicle. The Chronicle was a student led publication which first appeared in 1907. All Chronicle editions from 1907 until 1951 are fully digitised. Some editions from the 1970’s and 1980’ are also ready to view. We are currently in the process of digitising the 1960’s and these records should be available before the end of the year. We aim to complete the digitisation of the Bedales Chronicle by Christmas 2025.
We are grateful for any information regarding the history of the school and for any support towards the development and maintenance of the school archives.
