Bedales Schools Digital Archives

Welcome to the Bedales Digital Archives

We are very grateful to the Bedales Association Steering Group which has generously funded the digitization of the entire run of the early Bedales Record, from 1894 to 1935. The Record was the official magazine published by the school – in the first few years it appeared more than once a year, but eventually settled down to being an annual publication at the end of each academic year. Publication ceased with the retirement of John Badley in 1935.

Our digitization project started with the earliest editions of the student-led publication, The Chronicle, which first appeared in 1907. Those from 1907 to the early 1920s are now available. A few copies from the 1970s and 1980s have also been digitized, so that you can see how (relatively) recent editions compare with the earliest ones.

In the longer term we would, of course, like to complete the digitization of The Chronicle. We are grateful for generous donations from some Old Bedalians, who have sponsored the digitization of particular issues. If you would be interested in making a small donation towards this project, or perhaps sponsoring the digitization of an edition published during your school years, please do get in touch with Jane Kirby, Archivist, at Bedales jkirby@bedales.org.uk. If you are able to Gift Aid a donation, it will go even further – please do ask for a Gift Aid form.

If you have any queries about searching, or anything else to do with the school magazines, please contact the archives at archive@bedales.org.uk
